Created for youth and by youth, Safe Rides is a program of the Santa Cruz County Chapter of the American Red Cross that provides free and confidential rides home for teens as an alternative to driving or riding in a dangerous situation.  This free, safe and confidential program is the first of its kind in Santa Cruz County.

Safe Rides is available during the summer on Friday nights, 10:00 PM to 1:30 AMWe are in need of summer volunteers to help expand the program to Saturdays during the summer.  Please call Katie Radvanyi at 831-462-2881 x25 if you are interested.  Student volunteers answer the telephone line and a two-person, co-ed driving team will pick up the individual in a Red Cross vehicle and bring them home.

For more information about the Safe Rides program, or to become a volunteer with the potential to save a life, contact Katie Radvanyi, Youth Services Manager at 831-462-2881 x25 or email kradvanyi@sccredcross.org.

During the 2008-9 School year (starting in November) Safe Rides took 494 students home!
